George-Henri is the 3rd son of Camille Pissarro. Like his older brother Lucien, he studied with his father and was exposed to and learned from Impressionist giants including Monet, Cézanne, Renoir, and Gauguin. Initially painting in an impressionist style, he produced many landscapes around Pontoise and Eragny.. In 1894 he adopted the name Manzana, the family name of his maternal grandmother. In 1906, he branched out into furniture design, decorative objects, and painting in an “Orientalist” style with gold, silver, and copper paint, the success of which made him famous. His most important exhibition was in 1914 at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, where he exhibited 311 works including tapestries, carpets, furniture, glassware, decorative paintings, etchings, and lithographs.
